Chrysanthemum Greeting Card

Chrysanthemum is a flower card featuring a close up of a chrysanthemum flower. The closeup shows the delicate beauty of the colours and arrangement of its petals.

Chrysanthemums are originally from China and other parts of Asia. There are very many varieties and they have been cultivated for at least 3,500 years. In Japan they cultivate bonsai chrysanthemums.

The original colour of the chrysanthemum is a golden yellow. We know that because the first part of the name comes from the Ancient Greek word chrysos meaning golden. Our Chrysanthemum greeting card is a beautiful salmon pink colour.

Chrysanthemums originate in  China where people have used them in medicine and in art for thousands of years. Therefore, as soon as trade with the East opened up in the Ancient world, Europeans learned of these flowers and their properties.

Dahlia Flowers Are Similar To Those Of The Chrysanthemum

Dahlias, whose flowers are similar, are native to Mexico. Consequently, the scientific world of botany in Europe did not know of them until the Spanish invaded Mexico in the 1500s. This makes it easy to remember. Dahlia is the ‘new’ plant as far as Europe is concerned.

The flowers of the two plants are similar and sometimes confused. However, the tell-tale difference is in the leaves. Most chrysanthemums have delicate, lacy looking leaves with many rounded lobes. In contrast, dahlia leaves are ovate, with pointed tips and slightly serrated edges.
