Clementine Greeting Card
It is said that the clementine owes its name to a priest, Father Clement Rodier, who created the cross between a tangerine and an orange in the early 1900s.
He was experimenting in the garden at his orphanage near the city of Oran in Algeria at the time when a substantial part of North Africa was under French control.
So his ‘experiment’ spread quickly from Algeria to France and then across the Atlantic to the USA.
Clement, Father Rodier’s first name, means mild and gentle – a fitting name for the clementine fruit, no? And the image of this Clementine Greeting Card is gentle, too.
