Description

Headscarf Valentine’s Day Card with female mannequin with long brown wavy hair and beautifully dressed in matching top and headscarf, looking off to the side with a ‘I want to be alone’ look and the words Happy Valentine’s Day in a wine pink colour that matches her outfit.

A headscarf is of course a scarf made of a triangular or square piece of material folded into a triangle. It is a scarf that covers most or all of the top of the head. It is usually worn by women, and covers her hair as well as the top of her head, leaving the face uncovered. That is obviously not the case with this mannequin: Her hair is her crowning glory.

From that and from her clothes we can tell that her headscarf is a fashion accessory. She is plainly not wearing it to protect her from the rain or the cold. Nor is she wearing it for religious reasons.

Nowadays in the West, not many women wear a headscarf as a fashion accessory. That tells us again that this mannequin is from an earlier period – perhaps the 1970s. As to why not many women wear a headscarf nowadays, it may be the changes tides of fashion. Or it may be because more women are seen wearing them for religious reasons: Where one is on the up, the other is in decline.

That said, a headscarf is still a common article of clothing in the more rural areas of Eastern Europe as well in the Middle East.
