The phrase ‘Old Boy’ is a strange combination when one thinks of it, with its contrast between old and boy. It is a reference to the recipient being a former pupil of an exclusive school. And of course, it needs someone with the right clothing and delivery to pull it off.
At the same time, there is something not quite right if it is used in too insinuating a tone. It has to be forthright and on the level, just as it is here.
