Shades

An inspiring card featuring sunglasses set against a bright yellow background suggesting a sunny future and text ‘The Future’s So Bright’.

The text is a partial quote from the title of a track from a 1986 album by the band Timbuk3 that the future’s so bright I gotta wear shades. The phrase has now passed into common vernacular, and deservedly so. It encapsulates the ‘I know better than that and I won’t be fooled again’ view of life.

It’s inspirational in the sense of saying that it is for the individual to stand his ground and not be swept along by hype and fashion. Want more inspiration and the surprising origin of the word?

Donald Fagen said something similar in his 1982 track (IGY) What A Beautiful World from his Nightly album. There’s a line in that that goes ‘The future looks bright’ and the refrain is What a beautiful world this will be, What a glorious time to be free, while the tone of the voice suggests that the world will be anything but that.
