Description

Tarry Valentine’s Day Card with a drawing of a boat and two flowers (pink tulips) and a quote from Edward Lear’s The Owl and The Pussycat ‘Oh let us be married, too long we have tarried’. To top it off, Be My Valentine’ is the name of the boat. The boat is set against an impressionistic blue sea with waves and an aqua sky.

The words in the quote are from the second verse of the poem, which goes:
Pussy said to the Owl, “You elegant fowl!
How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried,
But what shall we do for a ring?

And it is a matter of personal taste, of course, but my favourite line from the poem is the one that goes
Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring? Said the Piggy, “I will.

There is just something wonderful about the way it rhymes, and the little sidestep as it were to mention the price of the ring mid-sentence.
