A humorous card featuring an amazed owl. It amazed and it looks amazed. To pull it all together the text reads: ‘I’m Absolutely Amazed’
You don’t see an amazed owl every day. So it’s worth taking a closer look. Look at the raised eyebrows and the perfectly circular irises. And of course the dish of feathers surrounding the features adds to the impression. This is one amazed owl.
What Species Of Amazed Owl Is It?
The International Ornithological Committee says there are over 250 species of owl. We photographed this one in the UK. However, but its habitat stretches all the way across the Northern Hemisphere.
It is a Great grey owl (Strix nebulosa). It is not surprising it is called ‘great’ becaue it can be up to 85cm long from head to tail. That’s a big owl.
But is has lots of other Common names depending on where you encounter it. You can hear it called the Phantom of the North. People also know it as the cinereous owl, and the spectral owl.
In Lapland they call it the Lapland owl. And across the arboreal forests of the word they call it the spruce owl, the bearded owl, and the sooty owl. Let’s just call it the amazed owl!
