Duet
Duet is a romantic card featuring a mismatched pair of lovely antique salt and pepper pots and text ‘We Go Together Like Salt And Pepper’
The word mismatch or more especially mismatched, is often used of the parties to a marriage. It is a damning thing to say of a couple, and is the opposite of well matched. Yet what exactly is it to be well matched or mismatched? In the worlds of the old rhyme, Jack Spratt would eat no fat, his wife would eat no lean. And so between the two of them they licked the platter clean. That is to say, the parties to a marriage do not have to be little clones who look at everything the same way.
The Function of Spouses
In fact it is said that the function of spouses is to correct the other and help them on their chosen path. So one could say that a pair is mismatched if spouses do not support one another. But they definitely do not have to be little peas in a pod. After all, a duet can be sung by people who are quite different, just that they know how to sing along together.
The word duet comes from the Italian duetto, which word is a diminutive of duo, meaning two. The essence of the word in its original sense is a composition for two voices. Specifically for two voices singing the same parts at the same time in the same way. That would be in contrast to a harmony, for example.
And of course, couples who have spent quality time in each other’s company can trip along like singers singing a duet.
