We photographed these ponies on the moors in Dartmoor National Park. It is the largest and wildest area of moorland in the UK, and well known for the ponies who live out on the moor all year ’round.
There have been ponies on the moor since prehistoric times, and archaeological excavations have found hoof prints dating back at least 3,500 years.
The ponies live out on the moor all year ’round. They are not wild, however, and are owned by local farmers who have rights to graze a certain number of sheep, cattle, and ponies on the moor.
