Description

Shy Valentine’s Day Card with a butterscotch and white guinea pig against a black background and text in orange that reads I’m a bit shy about asking you this – but would you be my valentine?

This could be said to go against the saying that a faint heart never won a fair lady (or gentleman). But think of it this way instead. Shy or not, this guinea pig is going ahead despite being shy. That’s kind of brave.

And who says that a bold statement is the only way to capture someone’s heart?

What Matters Is To Take Action

Surely what matters is to take action, to do something. You know, they said that people get stuck in depression when they let their minds dwell again and again on the same thing. There is a problem, and there does not seem to be a solution. In fact, the thing that brings about the solution is to act, to do. The solution may not be clear until action is taken. Often, a solution that is too well worked out beforehand is no solution at all. That is to say, it cannot withstand the cold light of day that is reality.

What Our Shy Valentine’s Day Card Is Saying

I read an advice column once about a young man who couldn’t summon up courage to ask a woman to dance. He hung back, believing he would be rejected. He had two left feet, so he believed, and would make a fool of himself on the dance floor. The agony aunt gave him this advice. Do what was within his control. That is to say, do not put the success of failure of the venture in someone else’s hands. The woman might say yes or no. That is something over which he could have no control.

But he could control something – he could learn to dance. And that is what the agony aunt advised, that he should take action and learn to dance. Who knows where that would lead? Perhaps he would meet someone at his dance class. Or perhaps he would be on holiday somewhere, or at a party. And everyone would get up to dance, and he would join in. Who knows?
