A greeting card for every day featuring a male Mandarin duck in full plumage, on the water with its head tilted to one side looking quizzical and curious, giving the look to the camera.
Mandarin ducks were introduced to the UK from their native China, Japan, and other countries in South East Asia. They have become established in the wild all over south-east England and around Merseyside following successive escapes from captivity.
The two feathers sticking up on its backs are known as sails, and they certainly look like that as the duck floats on the water.
On a personal note, we have seen hundreds if not thousands of ducks ‘up close and personal’ and we were both struck by how intelligent this particular duck was as it eyed us up.
