A greeting card showing a rear view of a man fixing head tefillin at the Western Wall in Jerusalem during daily prayers.
Tefillin are worn by Jewish men during daily prayers. They are two small black boxes containing biblical verses, with black straps attached.
One tefillin is wrapped around the forearm and the other one is wrapped around the forhead.
The command to wear them during certain prayers comes from the Old Testament. Some people interpret the command more strictly and wear them all through the day. Others interpret the command more leniently or less concretely and interpret it to mean that the ideas contained within the verses should be in the forefront of one’s mind and actions at all times.
